A couple from the Charlotte area wanted a mountain retreat in the High Country. They hired us and we partnered with High Country Timberframe to get them the retreat they wanted. There are douglas fir timberframes in the great room spanning a distance of 23 feet with mortise and tenon joints. The view from the great room is of Grandfather Mountain, Sugar Mountain, Beech Mountain, Roan Mountain in Tennesse and even Big Hump and Little Hump mountains on a clear day. It is breathtaking. The clients were also very interested in modern building science practices which allowed us to construct the home in the most sound way possible. We used RZip panels for the sheathing, Rain Guard housewrap, a conditioned crawlspace with closed cell spray foam on the walls and two inches of open cell spray foam on the underside of the subfloor. We installed an Energy Recovery Ventilator (ERV) in order to ensure that the appropriate amount of fresh air would be supplied to the house. The Heat Pump is a high end variable speed heat pump with three zones. Once we convinced the mice that they did not want to live in the outdoor compressor the unit has been working great.
The interior finishes of the home are beautiful. Granite, marble and tile are everywhere. Custom shelves in the closets and very detailed trim work make this home stand out. We would actually recommend this client as an interior designer for future clients!
